DIY...... we're not talking dodgy flat packed furniture here, we
mean do it yourself hair and make up. There are times when
you will need to be able to do your own hair and makeup. For
example you may be getting married abroad, and as much as
we'd love to accompany you as your personal assistants, it's not
usually a part of the wedding budget! Or you may be going to a
special party and want to look fantastic.
We will be adding different looks to this page as and when we
get time (the wedding season keeps us very busy!) so go and
get your make up bag, print off the basic bridal application tips
below and then scroll down the page to find a look you like......
Here are some tips from our make up artist Chantelle, for a perfect natural Bridal make up look
Firstly, the best asset for a bride to be is a glowing skin, so keep up with your skin care routine.
Apply foundation to the forehead first blending in to the hair line. Use a damp sponge for this. Next move down onto the nose,
cheeks and eyelids, blending as you go. Do not apply foundation dots all over your face as they will semi set and be more difficult
to blend. If you like a sheerer coverage of foundation, skip this next step. Press a tissue all over your face, then reapply the
foundation. This ensures that the oil in the foundation is absorbed onto the tissue and the pigment left on your skin, now reapply
the foundation. You will now have a super long lasting effect!
I like to apply concealer next, as I find it gets rubbed away if applied under foundation. Use a fine tipped brush to apply over
blemishes, allow it to set slightly and then use your fingertip to gently agitate the concealer to blend in.
Apply powder using a cotton ball dipped into loose powder. Press this into the forehead, nose cheeks and sparingly around the
eyes. Now take the largest brush you have and sweep it over your face removing the excess powder. Finish with downward
strokes. Apply more loose powder under your eyes.
Using the lightest shade of neutral eye shadow, apply it all over the lids, next take a contouring brush and apply the darker shade
in the crease of the eyelid, blend well. Apply highlighting shades to the brow bone, and in the middle of the lid if you like.
Apply eyeliner, even if you don’t normally wear it. There is nothing better for emphasizing the eye. Use a sharpened pencil and
apply in the top outer corner and the bottom outer corner. Blend in with a cotton bud.
Finally apply waterproof mascara and curl your lashes for a wow effect. This finishes your eyes. Sweep away the excess loose
powder
Apply a peachy pink blusher just under your cheekbones to create shape. Load your blusher brush with colour, tap off the
excess. Start from the ears and work inwards, that way you avoid getting too much colour on the cheeks. Finish off with a swirl
on the apples of your cheeks.
Apply lip liner to your lips and fill in with the colour. Use a natural toned pink or peach. Apply lipstick over the top, blot and
reapply. Finish with a top coat of lipgloss for a dewy finish.

Here is our lovely bride - Tanya. She
got married in a beautiful old hotel
which was quite dark inside, so we
applied slightly more make up to her
eyes to accentuate them and make
them show up more in the photos!
If you like this make up look, then here
is how to re create it. Tanya chose
Dinair airbrush foundation for a
flawless finish, see our tips above on
how to apply your base.
The eyeshadow colours are white, silver grey,
and smoky black. Apply white shadow to the
browbone, and corners of the eye, next apply
the silvery grey to the lids and into the socket
line, and finally apply the smoky black
sparingly to the outer corner of the eye.
Apply grey eyeling along top of lid and all the
way along the bottom, smudging with a cotton
bud. Apply plenty of black mascara to finish!
Tanya chose a very beautiful and
flattering hairstyle to match the fairy
tale setting of her wedding day. This
look is very hard to achieve by
yourself, but here is how it was done....
Hair is tonged all over with traditional
tongs to hold the curls, then individual
curls are loosely pinned back from the
face to create the look of hair that is
longer than it actually is.
Start from the bottom and pin each curl
as you go. Leave the sides until last
and smooth them and pin at the back
under the curls. Attach your tiara at
this point. Tanya had tiny white
gypsophilia flowers attached to random
curls to give her hair depth and
interest at the back. These are very
cheap and a wonderful bridal
accessory!

Here is another lovely bride Claire!
Claire also got married at the same
hotel as Tanya above, and opted for a
60's hair and make up style. Claire's
gorgeous retro style dress and
unusual veil called for make up and
hairstyling to match. For the makeup
we chose Dinair airbrush foundation
for a flawless complexion. Here's how
we created Claire's look. Apply a white
shimmer eyeshadow to the whole
eyelid.
Next apply a silver grey eyeshadow
close to the lash line and apply
charcoal grey kohl across the tops of
the lids and underneath the eyes.
Smudge the line softly. Apply lots of
black mascara with individual false
lashes to complete the eye make up.
Soft pink blusher is applied next and
then a pale pink lipgloss to complete
the sixties look.
The picture here doesn't show Clare's
hair to the best advantage, but it's a
sleek style that is mostly hidden by the
veil at the back.
Wash your hair the night before with
no conditioner. On the day, dampen
hair and set in velcro rollers for a
while. When completely dry remove
the rollers and lightly back comb the
back section. Straighten the front
section and pull to one side, secure
with pins. Roll the back section into a
large bun and secure with pins
